On 5 September 2026, the Dutch newspaper NRC published an extensive report on the Spanish property market, where the Dutch have now become the largest group of foreign buyers. The article by Sjoerd Klumpenaar also features Danny van der Horst of DH-Property.

The report describes how Dutch investors have turned to Spain on a large scale in recent years, and looks at the consequences for the Spanish housing market and the debate this has sparked in Spain.

In the article, Danny van der Horst explains how DH-Property works in Valencia. There, we buy former ground-floor commercial premises and transform them into full-fledged apartments for rent. The El Cabanyal neighbourhood, where we want to develop further, is also discussed.

A recurring theme in the article is the difference in lead times between the two countries. "It drives you mad how long a permit application takes in the Netherlands," Van der Horst tells NRC. That difference is one of the reasons DH-Property has expanded its activities in Spain in recent years, alongside its ongoing projects in The Hague region.
